Welcome to Curb to Creek Blog!
Welcome to Curb to Creek! I created this space to explore something I've become fascinated by: how nature shapes our health and happiness, especially when we're living in cities that can feel pretty far from wild spaces.
I'm diving into friluftsliv—a Nordic concept that's all about embracing outdoor life as part of everyday living—and figuring out how it translates to American urban life. Can we practice this mindset between traffic lights and apartment buildings? I think so, and I'm excited to find out.
This blog is part exploration, part documentation, part invitation. I'll share what I'm learning about the science of nature and well-being, my own experiments in urban outdoor living, and the small moments that make a difference. Grab your favorite beverage, settle in, and let's see where this path leads.
My Story
I was born in Sweden but grew up outside Brussels, Belgium, with summers spent in the Baltic on the Åland Islands. Those island summers, surrounded by water, forests, and wildlife, planted something deep in me: a love of animals and a lasting concern for environmental issues.
My background is in law but becoming a mom shifted everything about how I thought about well-being and I decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in public health. Years later, after my mother died, I trained as a health coach, trying to understand how health and well-being truly intertwine—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too. That's what led me back to nature.
Through my work and my own journey, I kept finding the same thread: our connection to the natural world isn't just nice to have—it's fundamental to who we are and how we thrive. Now, with a law degree from Uppsala University, a degree in public health with a focus on healthy communities from Blekinge Institute of Technology, and my certification as a Master Certified Health Coach, I'm exploring this intersection from my home in a large US city, wondering how we can all find our way back outside, even when "outside" looks different than it used to.
